Known distinctly from the territories of Aceh and West Sumatra, Sumatra, Indonesia.
Type area is ‘Barung Belantai River, Sumatra, Indonesia’, which seems to relate to a little waterway running near a town named Barung Belantai in West Sumatra region.
Western Sumatra seems, by all accounts, to be the principle wellspring of Stiphodon species for the aquarium exchange (Maeda and Tan, 2013) and this has supported in the positive recognizable proof of S. ornatus since its realized range doesn’t cover with any comparable looking congener of which there are a few (see ‘Notes’).
All Stiphodon in the aquarium exchange are wild-gathered and concerns have been raised in regards to their preservation status since some are locally endemic and may as of now be undermined by natural surroundings debasement, contamination or presentation of intriguing species, for example, tilapia.
